Featuring YOU! *Inari*

Everyone meet Inari!

Whats your name? Tell us a little about you!
Hi, my name is Inari. I am a Finnish girl, 23-years-old, a current student and a librarian-to-be.
I love bright colors (also in my hair), buttons, jewelry and tea with biscuits.
Spring is my favourite season and if I were an animal, I definitely would be a cat.

Do you have a blog or etsy shop?
Yes I do, both. My craft blog (http://ikomin.blogspot.com) and Etsy shop (http://tjinuski.etsy.com) both go under name Ikomi. The name comes from my initials and some other letters from my last name and was created by my boyfriend. I write my blog both in Finnish and English. It takes a while, but I want to write in my mother tongue. As well as in English to make it readable for as many people as possible.

Do you like to craft? whats your favorite type of crafting?
I craft about anything, depending on my mood. I'm always ready to try new things. I try to use recycled materials as much as possible and love to go to flea markets and trift shops to find some material. At the moment I'm into crocheting, but usually do a lot of jewelry.

Are you working on any projects at the moment?
I'we always got something going on. At the moment I'm learning to crochet a spiral with two colors and make a beanie with that pattern.
I also have a bunch of other ideas waiting for some time for crafting. Lots of ideas always buzz around in my head. Some of them become products some day, some of them won't.

What are some hobbies you like besides crafting?
Photographing, reading and blogging, of course.

Where are 3 places you wish you could go?
Denmark, Iceland, India...

What are 5 of your favorite blogs/websites? Where do you go for inspiration?

I get inspiration about anywhere. I love browsing through Etsy, there's so much amazing stuff. I also get inspired of the style of people on the street, nature, colors and my trift finds. My favourite blogs/websites at the moment are
A Softer World (www.asofterworld.com)
Missed Connections (http://missedconnectionsny.blogspot.com/)
Cardboard Love (http://www.cardboardlove.com/)
Letters to Crushes (http://letterstocrushes.com/)

Featuring YOU! *Erin*

Hey Everybody! Here is todays featured blogger: ERIN! I love her artwork, don't you?

Whats your name? Tell us a little about you!
I’m Erin, aka eef. I’m 24 and I live in Indiana. I like coffee, tea, books, vampires, and traveling.

Do you have a blog or etsy shop?
I have both! My blog is http://eef-ink.com and my etsy is http://eefink.etsy.com

Do you like to craft? whats your favorite type of crafting?
I make all sorts of things; I’m pretty schizophrenic when it comes to crafting! I crochet, I bind books, I spin yarn, I make block prints, I do other stuff too! It all just depends on the day of the week and the time of day and how much sugar I’ve had. I don’t have a degree in anything artsy, my BA was in Communication Studies which means I talk nonstop. I did however, participate in 4-H for 10 years, which is where I developed my photography skills (that and my mom was a photojournalist), and learned to do some pretty cool stuff. Mostly though, my crafty-ness was self-taught.
Lately I've been trying to focus more on my illustrations, and incorporating my art into useful things like sketchbooks and fabric.

Are you working on any projects at the moment?
I'm always working on about a million projects! Right now I'm crocheting both a blanket and a rug. I'm also working on some fabric designs and trying to figure out the best way to make prints of my artwork.

What are some hobbies you like besides crafting?
I LOVE to travel. I lived in Germany for two years and traveled to over 14 different countries. I am thoroughly depressed that I have a real job and am tied to Indiana for... Well, I'm not committing to more than a year. Some of my favorite things to do while traveling are hiking, biking, and taking photos. So I guess most of my hobbies are tied together!

Where are 3 places you wish you could go?
Australia. If the job I just got hadn't worked out, I would have packed my bags and moved there for a year.
Peru. I really want to see Machu Picchu!
China. I seriously considered teaching English in China for a year. But it was scary. But I still might.

What are 5 of your favorite blogs/websites? Where do you go for inspiration?

Featuring YOU! *Anzouya*

Here is my first feature post, I'm going to be doing these on the weekends! So keep watching for them! Here is Anzouya's awesome feature!

What's your name? Tell us a little about you!
My name is Angela, but I also have a nickname and that's Anzouya. As a matter of fact is a paraphrase of my name in Greek. I was born and raised in Greece, on a beautiful island called Corfu. Ever since I remember myself I explore and experiment with my abilities and possibilities, creating things that I like from all kind of material. I haven't decided yet what I like the most, or whether or not I'm good at anything after all :-S However, what's important is the journey and not the destination!

Do you have a blog or etsy shop?
I have a blog, it's called Anzouya and you can find it here http://anzouyaspool.blogspot.com. It’s a place where I share all the things that I like, my creations and some hints of my everyday life.

I've also registered for an Etsy Shop (http://www.etsy.com/shop/Anzouya) for quite some time now but I haven't got the nerve to fill it up yet. :-( I think I'm a chicken!

Do you like to craft? what's your favorite type of crafting?
Crafting is my life! Ever since I remember myself, I was always trying to make things with my hands. I've experimented a lot and I can tell that on many things I'm self-taught. If I see something that I like I try to figure out how it’s made and usually I give it a try myself. Through this process most of the times I come up with a different version of it or sometimes with something totally new. Some of the things that I've tried are:

1. Drawing. My first ones were usually copies of the cartoon characters that were printed on my childhood sheets and pillows. I would spent hours trying to draw what was there only by looking at it. Later on, I've experimented with trying to copy myself from photographs and from time to time I've created some characters of my own while I was doodling on my school books. (but I've never been really confident about it, so for many years I've resigned it and haven't done many things).

2. While I was studying I've begun to experiment with making jewellery, mostly with plastic beads. I've made many beautiful things during that time.

3. For a period in my life I used to give to my friends as a present little rocks that I was gathering from the beach with their names or zodiac signs drawn on them and polished.

4. Lately I’ve learned how to crochet and my obsession is growing ever since!

My possibilities are endless. I can’t choose my favourite type of crafting because from time to time my ideas, needs and inspiration keep changing. The only thing that I’m sure of is that crafting is the only thing that I feel that I’m good at and the only thing that I really enjoy doing.

Are you working on any projects at the moment?
I want to learn how to sew. I want to begin with small clutches or stuff like that and end up with being able to sew my own clothes. I think there’s a long way ahead of me.
What are some hobbies you like besides crafting?
I like photography, but I haven’t given it the proper practice and attention.
Where are 3 places you wish you could go?
1. Paris - France

2. New York - USA

3. Barcelona - Spain

What are 5 of your favorite blogs/websites? Where do you go for inspiration?

1. A Beautiful Mess.
http://abeautifulmess.typepad.com/
I think Elsie is AMAZING! She has become my role model!

2. One Pretty Thing

All the inspiration I need all gathered in one place.

Star Trek Apron Tutorial!

Hey you guys! Here's a tutorial for the geek in you.. :)

Supplies: Black fabric, Red, Yellow or Blue fabric, Black Ribbon, Gold fabric, and other embellishments if desired.

Here are the measurements for the top & bottom pieces of your apron.

Top colored piece:
top: 10"
bottom: 13"
sides: 14"

Bottom black piece:
top: 13"
bottom: 25"
sides: 19"

Cut out your fabric & sew them together. (bottom of the top piece to the top of the bottom piece.)

Next you need to cute out a wide V shape for the collar. Cutting it a little bigger than you actually want it because of seam allowance.

Iron the edges of your V shape under and pin to your apron.
Sew/applique the bottom edge of your V to the apron.

Cut out the top of the apron that is above you V collar except for a small strip that you can fold under & sew. Like this:
sew the top edge of your V, While folding under the top of your apron.
Next you want to give the sides a finished seam.
Now you need to cut your straps. Here are the measurements. You may need to adjust them depending on how long you want your straps.
Sides straps: 21" You need 2 of these.
Neck strap: 22" you only need to cut 1 of these.
Sew on the side straps to the sides of your apron.
And the neck strap to the top of theh apron.
Dont forget to make a star fleet badge using gold fabric & a black star!

You are all finished! Now you have an amazingly geeky but awesome new apron to wear! :)
Taylor made a yellow apron,
And I'm the red shirt that always gets killed! ;) j/k
If you make a version of this I would LOVE to see it! please leave a link in the comments or email me a pic!
xoxo, Live Long and Prosper
