Journal in Your Pocket- An Art Journal Prompt and GIVEAWAY!

Hello Punk Project readers! Emily Dismukes here to share a fun journal prompt (and more--so keep reading!). I'm very happy to be posting here today (thanks, Katie!) on behalf of myself, my good friend Natalie Malik and our upcoming art journal class, Journal in Your Pocket. I'll give you a little info on that in a bit, but first: a journal prompt! This is actually a prompt that didn't "make the cut" for the class, but I did the page anyway and thought I would share it with you all as a way to give a little sample of what awaits you if you decide to sign up!

Whatcha doin'? Sometimes I find myself working on so many different projects that I just get frustrated and stressed out and end up getting nothing done! It helps me to take a break and do a journal page about it; I have time to calm down but I don't break my creative streak and sometimes it even sparks a new idea. So, what else are you working on? Any big (or small!) projects? And how do you feel about them? Channel that satisfaction or frustration into a journal page!

Here's the page I did:

Materials: red paper, watercolor, image from Urban Outfitters catalogue, Smash tape
I put a little watercolor down the side and across the bottom to begin with, then cut out and added the girl from the UO catalogue. I anchored her to the page with a bit of Smash brand washi tape (which I *love*). Then I stamped my title on some scraps of paper, glued those on, and adde my journaling down the side in the open space.
And here's a little tip for getting nice straight titles with wood-mounted alphabet stamps: tape them together!

Just line up your letters and wrap a strip of masking tape around them! It might take a try or two to get them level so they can all be stamped together, but it's so worth it! If you have a word with double letters, just put in a random letter as a placeholder, but don't ink that one! Stamp the word, and then use the right letter on its own to fill the space in the stamped word. It's still easier than lining up all the letters individually!

And now I have a special treat for all of you: a giveaway! Natalie and I want to give a spot in our Journal in Your Pocket class to one of Katie's awesome readers! The class normally costs $25, but you'll have access to the private blog absolutely free of charge!

Here's a little about the class: Journal in Your Pocket is a four week art journal class (March 19-April 15) that emphasizes on the format of mini-journals and is packed full of prompts, techniques and projects. There are a couple of things that make this class so special! - First, it's based on the idea of working in a small format - each journal we make will fit in your pocket (or close!). It'll be fun to take your mini-journal along with you wherever you go. - Second, not only will there be a new journal prompt every weekday, but each weekend will have a prompt and tutorial to create a themed stand-alone mini-book. - Third, students will benefit from being taught by two wonderful artists with distinct styles. You'll be able to learn from two talented ladies at the same time! For more info, check out my post here.
