Using Puffy Paint on you layout- Scrapbook Summer

Nope, Puffy Paints aren't just for little kids. They are super fun to squeeze out onto your layout for extra dimension! There are so many different things you could do with puffy paints!
Supplies:
Paper, Pictures, Misc Embellishments, Puffy Paint
(I made my own puffy paint- there are alot of tutorials on the Internet- just google!)

1. I used a really patterned piece of paper and then added puffy paint to some of the patterns. However you could use a plain piece of paper and then paint out your own patterns!

This owl was paint onto the paper, so I just went over part of it with puffy paint and see how neat it looks.. ?
I did the same thing with the outline of the heart, and I painted little puffy dots going in a circle too.
If your layout warps while the paint is drying, Just put it under a couple of books- It will flatten out. ;)

Scrapbook Summer- Make a Torn Paper Rainbow

For today's scrapbook summer post, Here's a little DIY for making a torn paper rainbow.
Supplies: Papers in Red, Blue, Yellow, etc. (rainbow colors)

1. Tear your paper into 1" strips. You probably only need one strip for each color depending on how large you make your rainbow.
2. Tear your strips into smaller pieces and Arrange them into a curved shape- layering the colors.
3. Add to your layout!!
The quote on my layout says "There's always a rainbow after a rainy day" I also drew in some raindrops using a couple of sharpies from my awesome sharpie collection. ;)

Recycled Clue Game Mini Album DIY

So I made this super cute mini album (and I created a tutorial for you guys) however, I have to admit, it wasn't my idea. We were just going to throw our old clue game into the recycle bin and Taylor (my sister) suggested that I make a mini album out of it.
So that's where this AWESOME idea came from.. :)
1. Cut the 'Rooms' out of your board game.
2. Punch holes in one side of all the rooms.
3. Sand and ink the edges.
4. Bind. (I just used some twine.)
5. Add pictures.
I attached the "confidential" envelope to the cover and added 3 cards inside, just like if you were playing Clue.
Here's a little collage of all my pages, I used pictures from a nerd photoshoot that Taylor and I did..

      Panda Cutie

This is my last project for the DtsArt design team, and I think it might be one of the cutest! what do you think? adorable, right? I love the bow tie transparencies, Which are from Hambly Screen Prints. (the rub-on letters are also from hambly.)
Be sure to hop over to the DtsArt blog to see the rest of the design teams work & visit the DtsArt store.

I'm sure you noticed that I redesigned the blog, Do you like it? I kinda miss the woodgrain, but I was tired of my old header. But I do like the nice clean look that the white background gives.
I'd love some feedback! :) xo, Katie

      Scrapbook Summer- Playing with words

Instead of using regular letter stickers or chipboard letters for your title, why not try using your own handwriting!
This is a really fun technique that Taylor came up with, and then I did the layout. So it was a joint project. ;) enjoy---
      Supplies:
Paper, Pictures, Scissors, Misc Embellishments, Colored Pencils, Chipboard Letters, Sharpie Pen

      1. On a sheet of paper, lightly write out your title by tracing around chipboard letters.
      2. Journal on top of this with a colored pencil.
      3. Using your sharpie/pen go over your journals- Only inside your title.
      4. Add your picture and embellish your page! I used some paper scraps the I cut into swirls and added a few rub-ons too!

*Scrapbook Summer* Use yarn on your layout

In case you haven't noticed from some of the previous scrapbook summer posts- I love adding texture to my layouts! A fun way to do that is to add some yarn..
      Supplies:
Paper, Pictures, Misc Embellishments, Yarn, Hot Glue Gun or Needle and Thread.
You can either hot glue the yarn on or use a needle and thread to sew it on (But I don't have the patience to do that)
      1. Begin by wrapping your yarn around your pictures as a frame
Just keep going around and around until it gets the size you want it.
I connected all of my pictures together.
Try doing "scallops" with the yarn..
I used yarn to frame my pictures on that layout but you can add yarn in other ways too- Like I did on this layout by actually writing my title out in yarn!

      Car Book Holder DIY

I don't know about you, but I'm a serious book worm. I love reading.
However since we are going to be taking a long road trip/cycling trip, our truck will be packed full and there won't be alot of room for books. (especially not the giant stack I have sitting next to my bed, haha)

I was going to shove some books underneath my seat for our trip, but my dad informed me he already had plans for that spot, so I decided that the back of the drivers seat was empty, and I just needed a good way to put my books there..  So, Here's a fun tutorial on how to make a Book Holder for the back of the seat, or your could just use it a car organizer if you don't like to read.
      Tools and Supplies:
1 yd of cute fabric, 1 button, pins, Ribbon (optional)
      Sewing machine, needle and thread.

      1. Measure the back of your seat to see what size your book holder should be. Mine is 12" x 12".
      2. According to your measurements, cut 3 pieces of fabric that size. (example- I cut 3 12" x 12" pieces of fabric)
      3. Fold one of your pieces of fabric in half (right side out) and place it on the bottom half of one of your other pieces with the folded edge up.
This becomes the 'Pencil Pocket' and the front piece of your book holder.
      4. Placing a few pencils/pens on your pocket sketch lines where you will need to sew.
      5. Pin your pocket onto your front piece.
      6. Sew your pocket to the front piece by stitching along the side and bottoms edges of your pocket.
Also sew down the lines you sketched onto your pocket.
Now your pocket should be sewn to your front piece.
      7. Hem the top edge of your front & back pieces.
      8. Now you need to either cut four 8" piecie of ribbon OR make your own fabric straps and make 4 of them.
There are some great tutorials on line for making your own fabric straps, like these here, and here.

      9. Take 2 of your ribbon pieces/fabric straps and place them on the top edge of your back piece, about 3" from the side. Sew them on.
Repeat with your other 2 straps, placing them about 3" from the other side, and sew them on
      10. Now you will need to measure AROUND your car seat starting at the back going around to the front, and back to the back. Cut a piece of ribbon or fabric strap that length.

11, Now it's time to sew the whole thing together- Place your long ribbon/strap (the one you just cut) ontop of your front piece, letting 1 edge of it hang a little bit off the side of the front piece. (see pic below)
Now place your back piece ontop of it, FACING the front piece.
      12. Sew the side and bottom edges (be sure to leave the top OPEN!)
      13. Flip right side out!
      14. Sew a button on the opposite side of your book holder from where the long fabric strap/ribbon is, and cut a button hole in the end of that fabric strap/ribbon.
Now you just have to put it on your seat! Tie the top 4 straps to the headrest, and wrap the long ribbon/fabric strap all the way around the seat to your button.
Voila! Now I have a place to store all of my books on our long trip.
After I made mine, my sister saw it and decided that she needed one, so here is hers.
