Recycled Book Planter DIY

I saw a version of this at our local Half Price Books and I decided I had to have one. ;)

I know a lot of people feel like cutting up books is a horrible thing to do, however I think it gives books a new life. I love reading and I love books, but I don't mind cutting them up as well. If you do though, check out your local thrift store or half price books for old encyclopedias that are outdated and no longer used.

For the plants, I recommend succulents because they don't require much water which means your book will hold up much longer. I chose Baby Toe and Stone Face succulents. They don't grow large and I think they're really cool. Like life forms, which is why I chose a Star Trek book. :)

 Supplies: Hardback Book at least 1-2 inches thick, Craft Knife, Potting Soil, Small Succulents

 1. Fold the first few pages of your book over and glue them down to the cover. Sketch a rectangle onto your book.

 2. Using your craft knife, Cut along the lines you drew, removing pieces of the pages.

 3. Continue cutting until you have a large enough hole.

 4. Fill your hole with a small amount of potting soil and add in your succulents.
