Today I am sharing a super fun project to do with kids- a windsock! I've always thought windsocks were really neat, and so I created this one using an empty Pirouline Cookie tin, some felt, and some ribbon to look like a flamingo!
Supplies:
- Empty Pirouline Cookie Tin
- 2 Shades of Pink Felt
- White Felt
- Gray or Black Felt
- Hot Glue
- Scissors
- Awl
- Googley Eyes
- 1/4" Silk Ribbon
- 1.5" Metallic Ribbon
- Card Board
1. Start by covering the outside of the tin with light pink felt.
2. Use an awl to punch 2 holes into the bottom of the tin (now it will be the top to hang it with).
3. Cut a 2' piece of the 1/4" silk ribbon. Thread the 2 ends through the holes and tie a knot on the inside of the tin, this will be the windsock hanger.
4. Use the template (found in the supply list) to cut a flamingo head out of cardboard or chipboard.
5. Use hot glue to adhere it to felt and cut it out, leaving about a 1/4" of extra felt all the way around.
6. Cover the opposite side of the chipboard head with felt as well.
7. Apply adhesive to the beak area, and cover it in gray and white felt. Trim away any extra felt.
8. Place a line of hot glue on the short straight edge of the flamingo neck, and adhere it to the tin, as pictured. Hold it in place for about 15 seconds until the hot glue is dry.
9. Add googley eyes.
10. Cut out feathers from both light pink and dark pink felt. Place a dot of hot glue onto the tip of each feather and adhere them onto the sides of the tin like wings.
11. Cut 2 strips of the 1.5" ribbon that are about 20" long (you can go longer or shorter if you want). Adhere them inside the bottom of the tin, on opposite sides. These are the legs.
12. You can also cute little feet out of felt and adhere them to the ends of the ribbon.
And that's it. I think this little guy turned out adorable!! Also, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to get a good picture of a windsock- his legs wouldn't stay still! :)
